[Geeks Are Sexy]: Introducing Sean McDonald
Hello all, this is Sean McDonald your newest [GAS] contributor.
I have been playing with computers since my dad got me my first Commodore 64 and then a Vic 20, back in the days when all the cool people hung out at The Well. I have been a Windows sysadmin since 1993, dealing with everything from Windows for Workgroups, to Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003. One of my specialties is helping companies through the research and migration process when selecting and implementing new systems (e.g. new databases like iMIS in the association world or a VOIP replacement to old and stagnant PBXs).
I have been with a variety of organizations from non-profit associations to small multi-million dollar companies to media monitoring companies. Until recently, I was the I.T. Director and operations manager at a Washington DC lobbying firm. Working in this capacity gave me the unique experience of being a Washington insider and seeing first hand how a bill really becomes law. After 16 years in DC, I moved cross-country to Denver where I now work for one of the world's largest internet marketing firms (Viagra is sexy – but that’s not us – I swear!). In my spare time, I'm a student at the University of Denver pursing my degree in political science and social policy.
My sustenance includes triple grande mochas and slightly dirty vodka martinis; and I have been a member of the Bacon of the Month club for 3 consecutive years.
Since I worked in the DC arena for so many years, I am hoping to bring a unique perspective to GAS. By talking about some of the issues that affect our industry, I hope to shed a little light on how things will play out in Washington.
I am looking forward to getting to know y’all, and hopefully this will be a fun ride for all of us!
