Software for Starving Students
I recently ran across an interesting little group that is producing an interesting little CD of free software offerings. According to their website:
Software for Starving Students is a free collection of programs organized for students (but available to anyone). We've gathered a list of best-in-class programs onto one CD (one disc for OS X, one for Windows), including a fully-featured office suite, a cutting-edge web browser, multi-media packages, academic tools, utilities and more.
Yes it's a CD, but it's available as a downloadable disk image (ISO for Windows, DMG for Mac). The list of included software is surprisingly diverse, and includes a number of rather well-known apps, as well as some that I'd never heard of before. It looks like a bundle of goodies that would be great to distribute to less tech-savvy friends and/or family. At the very least, the list itself is worth a look.
See SoftwareFor.org for the download links and more info. There is also a fun Digg thread that was spawned from the latest release announcement of this package.
