Microsoft Drops its XP Pirate Checks

After being hit by a firestorm of controversy about its Windows Genuine Advantage notification system last week, Microsoft has decided to "trim down" WGA by removing its callback functionalities. If you've been following the news lately, you probably already know that most members of the computer enthusiast community went completely nuts after learning that WGA was "phoning back home" every time their computer was booted, effectively violating their privacy. Microsoft absolutely had to do something to stop the bad press, and they did what was right in this case.
