Samsung Considers Blu-ray / HD DVD Hybrid Player

Have you been debating about which HD player technology to support? Blu-ray or HD DVD? If you can't make up your mind yet and want to purchase an HD player, an hybrid drive may be the solution to your problem.

Samsung was the first to market a Blu-ray player with the launch of the BD-P1000 last week and could also be among the first with a hybrid drive. "We don't have a plan to make an HD DVD-only player but are considering a universal player. We are preparing HD-DVD [support] now and if we launch a universal player it will be the end of this year or early next year," said Kim Du-Hyon of Samsung's home-platform division.

I have the feeling that this player will be insanely expensive, even more then the Blu-Ray one which is currently priced at $1000USD. Eventually, one of the two technologies will die, and if you buy that hybrid drive, you will have paid way too much money for a player that will become half-useless in the near future. Whatever you decide to do, it's your money, not mine!
