Net Neutrality Update

This is just a quick update for those of you who are following the Net Neutrality debate that is continuing to rage. It seems further efforts to push through anything related to Net Neutrality have gone down in flames.

You may hate politics (Much like I do), but this is one issue that as an IT Professional, we should care about. You can read more about the
recent vote here.

  • I was thilled with the vote. I think the Senate is doing the right thing for the future of the internet. My coalition, hands off is very happy with the committee's vote.

  • The hands off coalition is a front for the telecommunications industry, and all of the participating members are just that. It doesn't surprise me that it's an anonymous commenter who's in favor of a multi-tiered internet, where blogs like this will fall by the wayside because bigger blogs with more money to strike sweetheart deals with big companies like Comcast and AT&T will have the ability, and more importantly the money, to get themselves delivered to everyone's homes nice and fast, while the rest of us with anything to say are relegated to the bottom tier.

Just another way for the deep pockets to have the loudest voice, and the everyday person to be silenced. Completely the opposite of the spirit of the internet, but you wouldn't know it if you believed the hands off propaganda. This isn't the end of the issue, and let's hope that after the midterm elections in November more sensible people are in government who will support Net Neutrality.
