Considering the source, I might question the validity of the story. But I don't care. It is hilarious, and the pictures are priceless.

I have a somewhat personal stake in this as well, considering the company from whom my department buys the vast majority of PCs.

"For the record, this is a Dell machine," notes Guilhem.
We don't have any further details of the model of the computer in question. In light of the evidence, however, we'd suggest you avoid actually using a laptop on your lap.

  • Yeah, The inquirer has been know to report bullshit on several occasions.

But the pictures are funny indeed! :)

  • Laptop's do have a high magnesium content in the alloy they are constructed from. Ever stuck a metal pencil sharpener into a bunson burner for science class?
Question is, if this is legit, what was the heat source responsible for starting it all off? Maybe a nasty cheap generic battery? Faulty batteries have caused cellphones to catch fire in the past.

  • We replaced at least 50 dell batteries earlier this year due to a recall. We were warned that they could short-circuit and overheat or possibly explode.
