Levitation and Ruling the World

One of the trinkets that inevitably seems to populate the desk of a mad-scientist, super villain, or any other "I'm going to somehow rule the world" character is a levitation device. The real-world versions of these devices adorn desks of all types, ranging from the corporate executive who's trying to be cool, to the geekiest of the geeks. Why? Because levitating stuff with magnets is cool. Plain and simple.

One such device/company was featured on a recent issue of The Daily Giz Wiz podcast (playable below). It's a bit pricey, but you can suspend all manner of different objects, including a globe, or a clock, or (my favorite) a picture frame. Geekiness, plus magnetic floating coolness, plus some practical usibility...

Check out the floating goodness discussed in the podcast at Fascinations, and hit up Odeo for more of The Daily Giz Wiz podcasts. They're short, sweet, and extremely geeky.
