Vista to use 800MB of ram, 7GB of drive space : The Inquirer has been reporting crap again.

According to the Inquirer, Windows Vista is going to eat as much as 800Mb of system memory, even when idling. The inquirer has been well known for reporting inaccurate facts in the past, and guess what, they've done it again. By inspecting the task manager picture they attached to their article, I realized that the reported 800MB of ram is indicated under PF usage. PF as in "PAGE FILE". If you look under the physical memory section of the performance tab, you'll see that 628mb is currently available out of 1 gig of ram. I can't believe that they published this without verifying the accuracy of their claim. Pathetic isn't it?

  • I'm always amazed at the $&!& that they report. Someone with too much free time on their hands uploaded a short video of an explosion and labelled it "US Army detonates IED" or something similar - then made it so the video wouldn't play in the US.

What gets reported on places like the Inqurer and Register? "Google censors video!" Cute.

  • Why is it using 800megs of page file when its doing absolutely nothing? (as per the CPU usage) Maybe pagefile isn't 'RAM' but it is active memory, otherwise it would need to swap it to page file :-)

  • Becauase idiling computers running windoze goobling up even 400 meg of RAM is equally as insanse as their misprint.

With firefox gnawing 128 megs OS X tiger still sits fine with less than 200 megs of RAM and is still somehow more stable than the M$ equivilant.
