The Vista delay: Why would Microsoft cancel Christmas?

With the Windows Vista-endowed computer already having been touted as the next great technological leap forward for consumers, it is difficult to imagine any great number of them willingly purchasing Windows XP systems instead, for their big holiday family gift items. So is there any logic to Microsoft's decision to postpone consumer Vista until after the holidays?

  • I'm guessing to make consumers anticipate it even more so they can get a huge big sale,and don't have to have low prices for Christmas.It is a bad move though - everyone is getting fed-up and losing interest.

  • Strangly enough, this particular delay is actually good news to some. Before this latest round of delays, support folks in places like Universities and Colleges were looking forward to having to support Vista on new machines arriving with new students, with only a month or two to test the final release (at best). This frantic testing would've had to happen at the same time we frantically ramp up to the start of a new school year. Now, at least we've got some extra time, and won't deal with quite the flood as was previously expected.
