Microsoft Release WMF Vulnerability Patch

Despite previous indications that the WMF security exploit patch would be released on January 10th, Microsoft decided that this was too late and made the patch available today. Head over to Windows update and install it as quickly as possible.

Affected OSs are: Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003.

If you need some guidance on this issue, please consult this article: Microsoft Windows security for computer illiterates

theMatt, a faithful reader, provided us with these additional details:

It should be noted that this vulnerability is apparently also present in Windows 95, 98, 98SE and ME, but Microsoft has decided to label it "non-critical" for these OS's until it is verified. Even then, they may or may not release a patch. See GRC.COM for a LOT more information about the mess surrounding this particularly ugly vulnerability.
